Kaiana and her Cria

Kaiana and her Cria

Kaiana is an Accoyo Alpaca, known for their very fine but dense fiber. Her Sire is the famous “Kahuna” owned by Dennis & Bea Miller at Alpaca Palms ranch in Riverside County. Kaiana was bred to the famous accoyo alpaca “Achilles”, so we have high hopes for this little Cria “King Kamehameha!”

Andrea Natally’s “Princess Diana” Born!

Posted by Sonja on Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

You just never know what color you’re going to get! Natally is true black and had a white/beige female cria! We named her Princess Diana since she doesn’t quite fit the elite crowd, and yet she is so sweet and beautiful she “stands out in the crowd.”  Natally has “thick ears” which I guess is not a good trait for alpacas and Princess Diana inherited those ears, but to me it doesn’t matter at all because she is the official “Alpaca Greeter” for the herd and is the least shy of all of them. She is a total love!

Visitors enjoying the ranch

Posted by Sonja on Sunday, July 20th, 2008

We love it when visitors come to the ranch and watch the alpacas from under our giant pepper tree… They love the country atmosphere and view of the valley and the alpacas are great entertainment! (I think the alpacas like the company too.)

If you’d like to make an appointment for a ranch visit, just call Sonja on her cell phone at 619-261-6677 and we will be glad to show you what our ranch has to offer! It’s a great outing for kids and adults alike to take a step back in time.

First Cria Born on the Ranch!

Posted by Sonja on Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

On June 27th our alpaca Bella Rose had her first cria and the first baby born at Old Castle Alpacas! She had him during the time we weren’t looking of course, but we did see the baby on the ground right after HE was born…within the first 20 minutes. Everything went well and both mom and baby had a textbook perfect birth. He is Henry the Grey’s son from Blue Ribbon Alpacas of California and we are thinking about naming him “Freedom” because he was born close to the 4th of July and a female cria named “Liberty” was born on the same day at Alpaca Mining Company in Nevada…So, Happy Birthday Freedom!
